we fell off our pedestals and turned to run away. spread wings, stretch legs, fall freely. holding onto nothing but the whispers of the branches as we pass. it’s in those moments between shadows and walls, the music strangles me.
and you’re there, outstretched on a sea of blue, your white linen shirt and khaki’s beneath porcelain and rainbows. i pushed myself past the silk and cotton. found myself under you.
i’ve changed the locks again.
the porch swing still hangs where it always did. the curtains still move like ghosts around the sills. put your worries under the pillow and sleep. dreams carry me away. lift me to the tallest trees, where the leaves sing lullabies. swift as rapids i find myself falling past it all. unafraid and free.
waiting to touch ground.
